Yarn Snugglers – Because Your Yarn Deserves a Little Hug!

Yarn Snugglers – Because Your Yarn Deserves a Little Hug!

Ever had a perfectly good centre-pull ball of yarn turn into a tangled mess halfway through your project? Yep, me too!

You know how it goes. You start with a lovely, neat ball of yarn, happily pulling from the centre while you knit or crochet. Everything is going beautifully until you reach that point where the ball starts getting smaller, loses its shape and eventually collapses in on itself.

Suddenly, instead of enjoying your project, you're fishing around in your project bag trying to untangle the yarn!

Sound familiar?

Well, that's exactly how Yarn Snugglers came to life.

A Little Idea That Solved a Frustrating Problem

I'd seen plenty of knitted yarn cozies around, and they're such a clever idea. A simple little sleeve that hugs your yarn ball, helping it hold its shape as you work.

But when I started looking for a crocheted version, there didn't seem to be nearly as many options.

And being a crocheter, naturally I thought, surely we can make one of these with a hook!

So, I got to work designing my own.

I wanted something practical, easy to use and, of course, something that would look pretty cute sitting in a project bag.

And that's how our Life in Loops Yarn Snugglers were born!

So, What Exactly Is a Yarn Snuggler?

A Yarn Snuggler, sometimes called a yarn cozy or yarn sock, is a little crocheted sleeve that fits around your ball of yarn.

Its job is simple: to help keep your yarn contained and supported as you work through it.

They're especially handy for centre-pull balls, which can become loose and floppy as the yarn disappears from the middle.

Instead of having your yarn collapse into a tangled pile, your Yarn Snuggler helps hold everything together.

And because it's soft, lightweight and reusable, you can simply move it from one ball of yarn to the next.

Not One, But Two Sizes!

Of course, once I'd made a Yarn Snuggler for a standard 100g ball, I couldn't stop there.

What about all those little 20g minis we have floating around?

You know the ones. Those beautiful leftover balls that are far too precious to throw away but somehow manage to unravel themselves in the bottom of your project bag!

So, I designed a smaller version too.

The Yarn Snugglers crochet pattern includes:

  • The 100g Yarn Snuggler – designed to fit a standard 100g ball of yarn.

  • The Bonus 20g Mini Snuggler – perfect for mini skeins and those smaller leftover yarn balls.

Two useful little makes in one pattern!

The Perfect Little Stash Buster

One of my favourite things about this design is that you really don't need much yarn to make one.

In fact, it's a fabulous way to use up those leftover balls of 4 ply yarn that we all seem to accumulate.

I recommend using 4 ply cotton or sock yarn, along with a 3.0mm–3.5mm crochet hook.

Why?

Because we want a nice, firm fabric that will help support the yarn ball rather than something too loose or stretchy.

Cotton works beautifully, and sock yarn is another great option, especially if you've got little leftovers from previous projects.

And the best part? You can make your Snugglers in all sorts of colours to match your favourite project bags, yarn or simply your mood!

A Little Make That Makes a Big Difference

Sometimes the most useful things we make aren't the biggest or most complicated projects.

They're those clever little accessories that make our crafting time just that little bit easier.

Yarn Snugglers aren't going to magically untangle every knot, but they can certainly help prevent your centre-pull yarn balls from becoming a floppy mess as you work.

They're also a lovely little gift idea for your knitting and crochet friends.

After all, who doesn't need another excuse to use up some beautiful leftover yarn?
